All-Australian Open ace Katie Brennan has been cleared to play in the inaugural Australian U18 championships in Melbourne next month.

Brennan (pictured), recovering from a stress fracture to her tibia, won’t play for her club side Logan in this weekend’s Women’s League grand final but will be fit to trek south for the 7-11 September carnival.

Captain of the State U18 side for the past two years, she was named today in a 25-player team by third-year coach William Fozzard.

Brennan will compete for the fourth year in a row with the State U18 side.

She is one of just seven players with previous experience at the level.

Logan clubmate Indy Sleeth and Lauren James of the Western Magpies will play their third U18 series, while Madi Crowley-Long of Zillmere Eagles, Cleo Davis of Gold Coast Warriors, Kathleen Peter of Djarragun College in Cairns and Sarah Sailor of Tagai College are back for a second effort.

Sleeth will be joined in the team by sister Jocinta, and together they will carry proud family tradition already set by brother Fred of Labador, a Queensland U21 men’s representative.
