Auskick Shines thanks to Suns

Massive growth in Currumbin SS NAB Auskick Numbers

Australian Rules Football in the Gold Coast region continues to grow off the back of the introduction of the Gold Coast SUNS into the AFL in 2011.

After just two weeks, the NAB AFL Auskick program at Currumbin State School has almost tripled their 2011 numbers, boasting 74 participants for 2012.

Auskick Development officer Keiran Daley said they could credit a lot of the growth to the SUNS.

“The SUNS being out in the community promoting the game is starting to pay off in the area,” Daley said.

“It’s only the SUNS second year as well so hopefully it just keeps getting bigger.”

NAB AFL Auskick sessions teach primary-school aged children the basics of AFL football through fun skills based activities.

Auskick is the perfect introduction to football for kids and their parents who are encouraged to participate.

“The kids get to run around and have a good time, while still learning about footy. It’s a great opportunity for parents to get involved too.” Daley said.
