AUSKICK FUN DAY A HIT WITH KIDS

Bernie “Gabba” Vegas helps students celebrate the last Auskick session of the year

Primary school students from Our Lady of Mt Carmel celebrated the last school day of 2012 with an Auskick fun day at their Norfolk St sports ground.

The Coorparoo students warmed up with some kicking practice into the Auskick inflatable goals before launching into a game of Students V Parents.  Despite some spectacular kicking from a few mums the parents team was no match for their younger and more energetic opponents.

Special guest, Brisbane Lions mascot, Bernie “Gabba” Vegas got a rock star welcome from the kids – their new furry friend responding to the enthusiastic greeting with hugs and high-fives all round.

Jason White, President of the Coorparoo Football Club Juniors, also dropped by to sign up some new talent for the club.

The final Auskick session of the year featured plenty of games, give-aways, an Auskick certificate ceremony and, most importantly, a whole lot of fun.

“We’ve had 110 kids enrolled in this program which has been our largest group all year,” said AFLQ South-East Development Officer, Marc Seen

“Having so many kids creates the most amazing atmosphere and everybody, parents included, just had a ball.”

Our Lady of Mt Carmel is a leading school for AFL in the Brisbane South-East Region, with their girls grade 7 team winning the 2011 state-wide Carol Berry Cup Competition.
