Alpha Sport Cup – week 2

The Alpha Sport Pre-Season Community Cup got away to a flying start last weekend, with teams quickly shaking off the rust and relishing a return to playing against real opposition.

One of the highlights was a hard fought match between Yeronga and Bond University, ending with Bond on top by 2 points in a thrilling finish at Griffin Park. Maroochydore also opened their account with a win in a tight tussle with Mayne at Maroochydore oval.

Elsewhere in the tournament it was more one sided, Aspley getting hold of Kenmore to the tune of 90 points in pool B and the Hinterland Blues beating Victoria Point in a 106 point win in pool C at Rob Akers Reserve.

Week 2 of the competition kicks off this weekend, giving University of Queensland a chance to continue their sharp pre-season form against Maroochydore in Moreton Bay. Also in pool A, coming off a win against Burleigh, Springwood will take on Bond University at Lowe Oval in what’s set up to be a highly competitive hitout.

Pool B will see big winners Aspley and Moreton Bay face off in Moreton Bay, while Robina will play Coolangatta at Robina, each looking to end the other’s unbeaten pre-season streak.
