AFL Queensland is celebrating its very own olympic connection with 1999 Special Olympics triple medallist Emma White working in their Yeronga head office two days a week.
Emma travelled to the United States as a 16-year-old to represent Australia in artistic gymnastics.
She won gold for her overall performance as well as a silver and bronze for individual apparatus.
“I felt really proud when I got a medal,” Emma said of her winning performance.
The sport was a natural progression for Emma who found her childhood ballet classes just a little too tame.
“My ballet teacher told mum that I should be doing ballet and not swinging on the barre and I think the sport for me was probably gymnastics,” Emma said.
The 29-year-old athlete is still involved with her chosen event at the Coomera Gymnastics Club.
Emma is a proud Gold Coast SUNS supporter and says she loves working at AFLQ.
Karmichael Hunt and Gary Ablett get the nod as Emma’s favourite SUNS players.
“And Jared Brennan too,” adds Emma.
