AFL Queensland statement – Vale Mervin ‘Merv’ Peltz

Head of AFL Queensland, Trisha Squires:

“On behalf of AFL Queensland, we send our love and support to the Peltz family, the Dalby Swans Football Club and the wider AFL Darling Downs football community, following the sad passing of Mervin ‘Merv’ Peltz.”

“Whether it’s been through playing, coaching, administrating, volunteering or sponsoring the game, Merv and the Peltz family have made their mark on our game in Queensland, particularly through their involvement with the Dalby Swans.

“The AFL Darling Downs Under 12 Best and Fairest Medal is named the Peltz Medal after Merv’s contribution to our game, and his legacy will always be remembered and treasured, especially by the juniors playing footy on the Downs.

“Merv’s love of football started as a 12 year old in South Australia where he played for Pinnaroo. On moving to Queensland he fought hard to get his beloved footy started in Dalby. At age 50 he was still strapping on the boots for the Dalby Swans Reserve Grade team to support the continuation of the game.

“Merv was a Life Member of the Dalby Swans and a Life Member of AFL Darling Downs, holding a number of positions in the league and club at different times.

“Our thoughts are with Merv’s children Christine, Jodie, Greg and Marie and their families at this very sad time.”
