At a glance: Mt Gravatt broke even through the home and away season, hanging on to fifth spot on the regular season ladder despite some close challenges through the year. Unearthed some gems and claimed a shock first-round finals win against Broadbeach.
Biggest positive: Improvement
The Vultures were not expected to make much of a splash this season and even their focus at the start of the season was on development and making their youngsters into hardened senior footballers. They went above and beyond that and held off plenty of challengers to clinch the fifth finals spot. They did inject some valuable experience through the year, with Will Hamill heading that list, but it was the younger brigade that bore the lions’ share of that load.
What to work on in 2015: Older and bigger
Add a couple of experienced midfielders. Probably another big man wouldn’t hurt either, to ease some of the pressure off their young rucks. They have plenty of enthusiasm and have showed they can tear sides apart with their pace. A ruckman/ part-time forward would be very handy and give the Vultures a focal point, which they have lacked at stages through the year.
B&F tip: Joe Murphy
Murphy has led the Vultures very well this year and has found plenty of football himself. The Mt Gravatt captain could find some competition from youngsters like Todd Carbone and Wylie Buzza, who have both been impressive this year.
