Coorparoo’s quest for a second straight premiership begins in earnest tomorrow, when they face Zillmere for a spot in the QWAFL grand final.
The Navy Roos have shown themselves to be the team to beat all year, with an even spread of talent, only dropping one match through the regular season.
Their qualifying final pits Coorparoo against the Eagles, the only side to take a win over Coorparoo, this season and both teams will be desperate to clinch a spot in a flag decider in a fortnight.
Both sides boast numerous state representatives and each side includes aplaeyr from the 2014 AFL exhibition game, in Emma Zielke (Coorparoo) and Tayla Harris (Zillmere).
With a fierce rivalry between the competition’s two highest-rated teams, there will be no love in the first final, after the sides split their regular season fixtures.
It’s a do or die equation for Yeronga and Wilston Grange when they meet in Sundays’ elimination final.
The Devils would be likely favourites going in, but their form is not as intimidating as it has been in the past three years.
Wilston Grange scraped through to the finals with a physical style of play that has served them well, particularly in wet conditions.
Yeronga had a tough draw to end the season, with two losses to Zillmere and a loss to competition wildcard, Coolangatta, in the lead up to the finals.
The Devils were comfortable winners in both of the sides’ home and away match ups.
