Fulton to hit 1000 QLD goals

By Harry Krebs

Robina’s Korey Fulton is simply a goal-kicking machine.

This weekend Fulton is hoping to not only help the Roos beat the Kenmore Bears, but to also reach an epic career milestone of kicking 1,000 goals in Queensland football.

Fulton is remarkably calm about the milestone.

“It hasn’t really kept me up at night, but I’m sure I will be happy to look back on it when I’ve finally retired”, he said.

Fulton’s performance could be key for the Roos on Saturday, when they face the only other undefeated QFA South side, in the Kenmore Bears.

Goals for Robina could be slim pickings in what should be a tight contest, but Robina coach Mark Vigus has every confidence in Fulton.

“There hasn’t been a game he’s played at Robina where he’s gone goalless, so we’re assuming he can get one on the board,” he said.

You only have to look at his first two games this season, to see it would be hard to argue that Fulton wouldn’t boot that last goal against Kenmore.

The full-froward kicked a whopping 11 goals in Round 1 against Coolangatta-Tweed and backed it up with another eight against Coorparoo in Round 2, with an early exit from the game, setting up a fairy tale for this weekend.

Fulton will have the confidence from playing at home, where he will hear the cheers and cries from his friends, family and the thunderous Robina faithfuls.

“Hopefully I kick it,” he said.

“It’ll be great to have the family and mates watching me when I do.”

This is only Fulton’s second season at Robina, after stints with Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise but he was a key part of their 2013 campaign, which led to a grand final appearance, and it appears he will be just as pivotal in 2014.

“He’s been fantastic since he’s joined Robina,” Vigus said.

“He’s brought a lot of influence to the club and everyone loves to have him around.”

The Roos will be doing plenty to mark the occasion this weekend, a move which Fulton is appreciative of.

“I think the club will have something on, some meals and drinks.

“It’s really good of them to do that.”

Robina take on Kenmore at Scottsdale Dr on Saturday at 2pm.
