NEAFL umpires hit the training track

NEAFL umpires headed back to their Coorparoo training base last week to kick off official preseason training.

With numbers well over 40, the umpires have come back to training in terrific physical condition, with many community umpires also at training to trial for spots on the QAFL panel which will be introduced for season 2014.

Under the watchful eye of Fitness Coach, Warren Vines, the umpires will be put through various fitness tests before Christmas, including 2km and 5km time trials as well as the beep test.

Last season 9 NEAFL field umpires were already running under the AFL umpire benchmark times which holds the group in great physical condition heading into the pre-season.

With a seminar/camp again planned for February the umpires will be well prepared for the upcoming season.

“The condition the umpires have come back to training in and their effort and application has been first class,” said  Head Umpiring Coach – Queensland, Cameron Nash.

” It which will ensure we will again take big steps forward in 2014.”
