Bachar Houli Cup for Brisbane

The Inaugural AFL Queensland Bachar Houli Cup will take place at Leyshon Park Yeronga this Wednesday September 11.

Milperra SHS, Islamic College of Brisbane and Australian International Islamic College will compete in a round robin format in both a boys and girls competition.

The Bachar Houli Cup has been developed by the AFL’s Multicultural Program and Richmond football player Bachar Houli.

The program provides Islamic based schools and students an opportunity to participate in an AFL 9’s competition. The objectives are to:

 – Provide an opportunity for Islamic students to engage in AFL
– Provide an AFL and cultural role model in Bachar Houli
– Celebrate cultural diversity
– Identify AFL talent

The Bachar Houli Cup is a national program currently played in Victoria, NSW and Western Australia.

AFL Queensland CEO Michael Conlan said he was delighted to launch the program in Queensland.

The Bachar Houli Cup provides an opportunity for Islamic students to engage in AFL by participating in a six week program culminating in the Bachar Houli Cup,” said Conlan.
