The Western Magpies AFLQ team left a lasting impression on a bunch on Auskick youngsters in Toowoomba over the weekend.

The Western Magpies didn’t get the points in Saturday’s QAFL clash with Morningside at Toowoomba’s Heritage Oval, but they left a lasting impression on a bunch of keen AFL youngsters at Toowoomba Grammar School.
The Magpies joined local AFL Queensland staff in conducting an Auskick session at the TGS junior school.
Magpies ace Jackson Allan, a member of the 2010 AFL/AIS Academy, joined injured senior players Bryan Dragus and Greg Friis at the Auskick session, gave the Grammar students a great thrill by participating in the hour long program.
The students kicked off their Auskick session with a game of here, there and everywhere where they were presented with the opportunity to chase and tackle the Magpies players. It was an opportunity they met with great enthusiasm.
The session then moved onto the game component of the program, where the students played in a modified AFL game and had the opportunity to play with and against the Magpies players.
Magpies Club Development Manager Anthony McDonald was the driving force behind the promotional visit and was also in attendance for the session, giving away Magpies hats to the Auskick students at the conclusion of the coaching session.
The session was a big hit with the students and may become an annual event, with the Magpies exploring the possibility of playing a home State League match in Toowoomba on an annual basis.
AFLQ Darling Downs Regional Manager Keith Webb extends a big thank you to the Magpies players and staff for their efforts in promoting the game on the Darling Downs and for providing a great learning experience for all students involved in the Auskick program.
