Positive or it’s Pointless say QLD clubs

The AFL Queensland Positive or It’s Pointless campaign was held over the weekend with clubs celebrating safe, fun and inclusive football for our children.

The Positive or It’s Pointless campaign aims to reduce poor and unacceptable player, spectator and parent behaviour to make sport safe for all children.

All junior clubs in Queensland participated through various initiatives including:

  • Promotional resources displayed around the club
  • Contacting members with program information
  • Playing a ground announcement audio cd from Brisbane Lions player Tom Rockliff
  • Coaches speaking to players and parents prematch to remind them of appropriate behaviour

Clubs also took photos of their match day environment which best demonstrates the Positive or Its Pointless theme.

AFL Queensland Community Programs coordinator Aaron Hall said that the weekend was a success.

“Feedback from clubs is that the campaign is great reminder to players and parents that while everyone wants to play well and win, it’s more important that we strive to make football fun and enjoyable,” said Hall

“This is especially a good reminder as youth grades enter finals and the pressure increases.”

“We need to remember that everyone has a role to play in providing the best environment for our children.”
