Beaudesert SHS Students Tamara Collins and Rachel Twomey with local Auskickers

Local schools girls  Tamara Collins and Rachel Twomey, have volunteered their time to assist the Beaudesert Brumbies junior AFL club conduct their NAB AFL Auskick program.

The Brumbies Auskick, which is based at the Beaudesert State School, has seen more than 25 participants take part in the program which teaches children the basic skills of AFL in a fun and safe environment.

Rachel and Tamara first played football in the Youth Girls Cup, a 9-a-side High School competition run by AFL Queensland, and have been hooked ever since.

The girls are currently completing Grade 12 at Beaudesert SHS, where they have undertaken an AFL Sport Education program conducted by AFL Queensland Development Officer Daniel Almond.

“We have been attending the school during their HPE classes and conducted a number of sessions which have focussed on developing their playing, umpiring and coaching skills,” said Daniel.

“It’s fantastic to see the girls putting everything they have learnt into practice so quickly.

“They have a great attitude and are doing a fantastic job giving back to their community”
