CALOUNDRA-COORPAROO GRAND FINAL

Monday 30 August 2010

The Wynnum Vikings’ quest for a three-peat in the State Association Division One competition is over after a see-sawing preliminary final loss to the Coorparoo Kings on Saturday.

Wynnum, who won the last two premierships by less than a goal, were beaten by 13 points despite kicking eight goals to two in the third quarter to seize the lead.

Coorparoo, coached by former Brisbane Bear and Mt Gravatt mentor Michael Gibson, will play Caloundra at O’Callaghan Park this Sunday at 2pm in the 2010 grand final.

In the Pineapple Hotel Cup, former Zillmere Eagle and Aspley forward Josh Walker booted six goals in Sandgate’s thrilling 11-point win at Noosa in the second semi-final.

The Hawks have gained automatic entry to the grand final, while Noosa will battle Burleigh in the preliminary final.

The Pineapple Hotel Cup grand final is scheduled for Wilston Grange’s Hickey Park on Saturday 11 September.
