Tuesday Talking Points

Buddy system

Surfers Paradise has launched a primary school tradition in their juniors; the buddy system. Each player from the Demons’ Under 11 team has been paired up with an Under 17 player, to spend time with each other at training sessions and during the season. We all know how much the younger kids idolise the older players, so this is a ripping idea.

Footy is back

It’s been a long wait, a very long wait. Actually, lets not beat around the bush at all, life without footy has been terrible. But fear no more because this weekend the real stuff all kicks off, with the QAFL, QFA South, QAFA (A), QAFA (B) and Colts all in action. Buckle up, the next six months is going to be exciting.

Morningside donations

After the devastation Cyclone Winston caused in Fiji last month, the Morningside Football Club wanted to help out in any way they could. They reached in to their kit bags, and sent a heap of old shorts, tops, jumpers and socks over, to give those in need something to wear. Well played, Panthers.

Eagles announced leaders

The QWAFL season may be a few weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped Zillmere locking down their leaders for 2016. Mikayla Anderson will once again lead from the front as skipper, but will this year have the help of Kylie Lawrence, who has been appointed Vice-Captain. I’m sure these two will soar.

Rematches

It’s only round 1 this weekend, but the blockbusters are already rolling in. This weekend will see two 2015 grand final rematches. In the QAFA Northern Rivers competition, Byron and Tweed will square off. In last years decider, it was Tweed who pinched one at the death to win by a point. In the QAFA (B) North competition, Gympie and Maroochydore will renew their rivalry after Gympie won a thriller last year.

While it might not be a regular season grand final, this week Kedron take on the South East SUNS in the QAFA (A), after those two teams played off in the Alpha Sport Pre-Season Cup Grand Final just two weeks ago. If that game was anything to go by, that will be a cracker as well. How good is it having footy back?
