In line with the AFL mandate that all umpires in 2013 must undertake a form of accreditation before officiating in a game of Australian Football, all club umpires must be accredited for the upcoming season.

The following applies to the South East Queensland AFL Club Umpires for season 2013. For Club Umpire Programs in AFLQ Affiliate Leagues (ie AFL Cairns or AFL Mackay), please contact your Regional Umpiring Manager.

Stage 2 – AFL Online Club Umpire Quiz

The second stage of gaining Club Umpire Accreditation is completing the AFL’s Club Umpire Quiz.

This AFL Club Umpire Program is designed to enable people across the football community to gain knowledge and skills in umpiring and to have their competence in the role on match day confirmed.

This course is divided into the following modules:
Module 1 – Preparing to Umpire
Module 2 – Umpiring a Match
Module 3 – The Umpire in Action

By the end of this course you will be able to:
1. Identify the important elements of preparing to umpire a football match
2. Umpire a football match and demonstrate competence.

The online quiz takes approximately 30 minutes to complete

Please access and register for the course through the AFL’s Community Club Website: www.aflcommunityclub.com.au/index.php

Please ensure you select the ‘Field Umpiring’ component of the course. There is no need to select Boundary or Goal Umpiring.

Please ensure you print out and retain the Match Assessment Checklist when prompted to, as you will require it for your practical assessment.

Once you have completed the quiz please email or fax a copy of your Field Umpiring Learning Pathway Certificate of Attainment (available after completing Field Umpire component) and Course Completion Certificate (emailed to you within 24 hours of completing the course) to Pierce Field on 07 3846 7381 or pierce.field@aflq.com.au so it can be registered on our database.

Alternatively, you may bring a copy of your certificate to the Compulsory Skills Session.

Stage 3  - Compulsory Skills Session

In Queensland, a compulsory skills session is to be completed before officiating in any AFL Queensland fixture. The skills session focuses on the following positioning skills:

· Set Play and multiple Set Plays (When an umpire awards a free kick or mark)
· Ball up at the centre of the ground and around the field.
· Kick in after a behind
· Set Shot at goal
· Boundary throw in.

There is some running so participants should bring running shoes, shorts and training shirt and a water bottle.

Participants will receive an umpire pack which includes Wristbands, whistle, water bottle, Law Book and Laws DVD. At this session the umpire accreditation process will be explained to you and the resources will be given to you. You will also receive an umpire uniform.

Once you attend this course and receive the materials your club will be invoiced for your attendance. So we ask that you confirm participation in the program with your club.

Stage 4 - Registration as a Club Umpire with AFL Queensland

All umpires are required to be registered as an umpire with AFLQ for insurance and Workcover requirements. The online form will take 5 - 10 minutes to complete.

You can complete stage three any time before your first match, however it must be completed before you umpire.

Click here to complete the online registration form.

Stage 5 – Practical Assessment

The final step to achieving Club Umpire accreditation is to have one match observed by a League Umpire, or the Team Manager of the opposing team. They will need to complete your Match Assessment Checklist, which was printed out during Stage 1.

Upon completion please submit the checklist to Pierce Field at AFL Queensland via email (pierce.field@aflq.com.au) or fax (07 3846 7381) to complete the accreditation process.

Your accreditation will last four years, with an online refresher course available at the beginning of each season to ensure you are up to date with current Law Interpretations.
