Vale Neville Fallon

The Brisbane football community is mourning the loss of AFL pioneer Neville Fallon, who passed away on Monday.

Born and educated in Toowoomba, and a graduate from Harvard University, Fallon was a passionate supporter of Australian Football in Queensland.

Known affectionately as ‘Nifty Nev’, he was a long-term sponsor of both the Coorparoo Football Club and State of Origin QAFL Team.

In his capacity as General Manager of CIG (now BOC), Neville sponsored the team for more than half a decade from the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s.

It was during this period that "Nifty" further developed his love for the game, transferring his wealth of experience and passion to the Brisbane Lions as a foundation board member until his retirement in 2001.

Prior to the formation of the Board, he was Chairman of the Lions Marketing Committee, and oversaw tremendous growth in membership, supporter base, and revenue.

He was also founder of the Gold Lions (the major Gold Coast Supporter Group) and the Brisbane Lionesses Coterie Group.

In the words of his son, Michael “The greatest game of all has lost one of the great men that helped build it in Brisbane”.
