U18 Div 2 Preliminary final preview

Wynnum and Coorparoo will face off for a spot in the Under-18 Division Two grand final, on Sunday.

Wynnum and Coorparoo will face off for a spot in the Under-18 Division Two grand final, on Sunday.

The game is a rematch of their week 1 semi-final, which Coorparoo won by 19 points.

Having played each other three times already this season, Wynnum coach. Matt

Cordwell said there wouldn’t be any surprises come Sunday.

“Given we’ve played them twice in six weeks, we know exactly how each other plays,” he said.

“We’ll have a couple of cards up our sleeves that we hope will give us an edge, but it should be another tight contest.”

The Vikings will have all the momentum heading into the clash, having beaten Yeronga by 28 points in the first semi-final last weekend.

Coorparoo will need to rebound from a disappointing effort against minor premiers Caloundra in their semi-final, if they want the right to a rematch in the major decider.

The Kings went down by 88 points to the Panthers, but will be buoyed by their recent win over Wynnum going into this weekend.

It will be the first sudden death final for Coorparoo, with second chances available in both of their first two finals matches.

The two south side clubs have had some thrilling matches this season, and finished second and third on the regular season ladder.

Before their week one clash, the Vikings had the better of the Kings by five and eight points in their two home and away matches.

Coorparoo has the wood in the games that matter most, though.

Wynnum faded badly in their final, and Cordwell said his side had run out the game against Yeronga far better.

The Vikings will also welcome a number of players back, who were ruled out with illness, ahead of their semi-final, which will bolster their line-up.

Their preliminary final kicks off at 10:45 on Sunday at Alexander Park, Moorooka, with the winner progressing to the August 18 decider against the Panthers, at Kedron.
