The Redcliffe Tigers defeated the Logan Cobras in the SEQAFL Divsion Three Senior Grand Final last weekend.
It was a hard fought win for the Redcliffe Tigers in taking out the SEQAFL Division Three Senior Premiership last Saturday.
The Tigers managed to hold out the Logan Cobras claiming the 2012 flag by just 4 points, 8.13 -61 to 8.9 -57.
It was slow going process getting points on the board with just four goals kicked between the two teams at half-time.
This wasn’t for a lack of scoring shots though with both teams marred by goal inaccuracy.
It was a battle of the backlines throughout the day with both the Cobras and Tigers putting on an impressive display.
Tigers captain Brett Somers heaped praise on his backline, who repelled wave after wave of Logan attack, particularly in the dying minutes of the last quarter.
To their credit, the Cobras fought all the way to final siren even when it looked like the Tigers might be able to run away with the game.
There were a number of standout performances on the day, but the Best on Ground Medallion was awarded to Logan captain Daniel Mulligan, who is tipped to make the leap into Division Two or Pineapple Hotel Cup in 2013.
Now the 2012 premiers, Redcliffe have been underrated throughout the season flying under the radar of many of the top teams.
‘‘Nobody rated us, and the fact that we maintained that belief ourselves, I think, was our biggest victory as a team,’’ senior coach Steve Jenkins said.
The premiership will help Redcliffe in their push for a SEQAFL Division Two berth in 2013 – something they have been working towards over previous seasons.
“We’ve done a lot of things, including our coaching with that in mind,” Jenkins said.
Somers said the victory on Saturday had also provided some emotional relief for the club who had been through a lot in the past two years.
“We’ve been celebrating back at the club with those who’ve supported us, it wouldn’t have been possible without them,” he said.
