The football fraternity on the Sunshine Coast is being urged to get behind all umpires in the region this weekend as they raise funds for cystic fibrosis.
All umpires will wear bright red uniforms at junior and senior games to signify their support for the charity, and members of the umpires’ association will be rattling tins looking for support.
It is the second year of the initiative after it was strongly supported at the senior games at Noosa in particular last season.
With both the Noosa Tigers and Maroochy North Shore Roos hosting home games in the Pineapple Hotel Cup this weekend, it promises to be an even bigger weekend for the umpires and their cause.
Collection tins will be placed at all 10 junior and senior Sunshine Coast clubs hosting action over the weekend.
State Umpiring coach Andrew Reeves and State Umpires manager Greg Howell threw their full support behind the initiative.
“I believe the clubs have been very supportive of this project as well so it is great to see players, officials and umpires working as one for the good of the community,” Reeves said.
Sunshine Coast umpires coach Tony Boyanton has been the driving force behind the campaign.
