Swanny to guest speak at Victoria Point

The Victoria Point Football Club will be graced with a bit of modern day football royalty next month.

2011 Brownlow Medalist and Collingwood star Dane Swan will guest speak at the Sharks function on November 6, held at the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club.

Sharks Secretary Nic Aldrige said the of support events like these are crucial to the clubs survival.

“They are massively important, especially for us as a new club. Even just having someone of Dane’s status advertising that our club exists. Obviously we have only been alive for 12 months, so to have someone like Dane is pretty big for us,” he said.

All funds raised from the night will go straight towards the implementation of a new colts team for 2016.

“We are looking at starting a colts team as well this year, to go with our senior and reserves teams. It will be funneled straight back into the upstart of running that third team,” he said.

Having a larrikin like Dane Swan, who doesn’t mind a laugh, but is also a wealth of football knowledge, provides the perfect formula for a fantastic night out.

“Dane is obviously one of the biggest personalities in the competition, matched with the fact that he is probably still one of the best players in the comp. It’s a great opportunity for people who never get to see him on the Footy Show at a decent hour, to come and hear his stories,” Aldridge said.

“Having someone from a Victorian based AFL club speak up here is rare, so it’s a great opportunity to expose yourself for that.”

The event will kick start the Sharks preparations for the second season in existence next year.

“We were overwhelmed from the support we received from the community in our first year, we certainly don’t want to be a one hit wonder. We know that the second year is going to be just as hard, if not harder than the first in terms of recruiting players and attracting people down at the club,” he said.

“We have got some real quality people involved in the club, and we are looking forward to getting our hands dirty in the 2016 campaign.”

Tickets to the event, which include a 2-course meal and drink package, will be $110 each, or $1000 for a table of 10 people.
