SUNS SHINE, CARNIVAL FEEL AT SOUTHPORT

Tuesday 1 March 2011

Fankhauser Reserve is preparing for two huge Saturday’s of action with the Gold Coast Suns playing there this weekend and the southern-based NEAFL clubs involved in the Club Aid Trophy carnival the next.

Saturday represents the first time that the Suns will play on local territory as a fully-fledged AFL side.

They will play the Sydney Swans at 3pm as part of the NAB Challenge round.

Tickets are available from the gate only on the day, with admission prices being $10 for adults, $5 concession, $2 for juniors under 15, and $20 for a family of four.

The Suns earned rave reviews for their gutsy performance and style of play against West Coast in Perth last weekend despite losing and should garner plenty of support from the local crowd on Saturday.

The following Saturday the Southport Sharks will get a first genuine look at their new recruits in action when they host the first of two weekends of the Club Aid Trophy.

Six 40-minute matches will be played throughout the afternoon.

The Brisbane Lions play Melbourne at Carlton on Saturday in their third week in a row on the road but should be scheduled a local practice match for the final week of the NAB Challenge.
