SUN SHINES IN MACKAY

Thursday 30 June 2011

Gold Coast Suns player Piers Flanagan and club talent academy manager Andrew Johnson were a big hit in Mackay recently.

As part of their commitment to working in the community, the Suns duo were happy to visit the Mackay region and support local AFLQ staff with the work they do in promoting the game in the region.

The Mackay region is part of the Gold Coast Suns Talent Academy zone, which essentially stretches from north of Bundaberg to the northern tip of Queensland and also includes the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region.

During the trip Flanagan was mobbed by nearly 100 participants at a pre-organised AFL Mackay Superclinic on the Friday before he and Johnson offered encouragement at the Under 14 Country Championships over that weekend.

As a memento of their visit, Flanagan presented the AFL Mackay Juniors with a jumper that has been signed by the entire Gold Coast Suns team.

AFLQ development officer Dion Obst said the visit by the Suns was very well received.
