Skilful former Morningside grand final player and current Brisbane Lion Adam Spackman is out of Saturday’s State game at Southport.

The Queensland selectors were keen to utilize the former Hervey Bay boy’s running ability and classy foot skills, but a shortage of key staff has seen him drafted into the Lions’ match day operations in Melbourne this weekend.

Spackman is the Lions administration officer and received special dispensation at the start of the season to play with the club that he works for, rather than return to original club Morningside after being omitted from the Brisbane rookie list at the end of last year.

Rather than running around Fankhauser Reserve in a Queensland jumper, Spackman will be running for the Lions coaching staff at Etihad Stadium on Sunday against the Bulldogs.

The Maroons will finalise their 23 after training tonight, although they look almost certain to go into the game with just one ruckman.

Tasmania are bringing just one big man and the Maroons are likely to maximize their running power on the wide open expanses at Southport.

The Queensland Under 21 side will also be whittled down to 23, once the composition of the open side is known.

The Under 21s meet the VAFA Under 21s at 11am, while the senior game features at 2pm.
