South Queensland Squad named

Selectors have named the South Queensland Squad to play North Queensland in Brisbane on Sunday June 7.

The match is part of a state representative program that will see four matches played at the Moreton Bay Regional Sports Complex in Brisbane during the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

North Queensland meet South Queensland, Queensland take on Victoria Metro, the NEAFL will play the Tasmanian State League and the Queensland Women’s team will match up against a Tasmanian state representative side.

Kenmore Bears senior coach Will Fozard, who was assistant coach in 2014, has taken the reins of the South Queensland outfit and is keen to atone for last year’s 6-point loss to the Northerners.

“Last year’s loss was extremely disappointing and we will be making every effort to reverse that result,” said Fozard.

“We have selected a well-balanced side representing players from 17 different clubs.

“It’s a mixture of youth and senior players we believe can demonstrate the high standard of football within our region.”

Fozard brings 13 years coaching experience to the role and will be backed up by assistants Tony King (Springwood), Rob Dickfos (Moreton Bay), Shane Melrose (Darling Downs) and Tim Pearson (Griffith Moorooka).
