SEQ Junior Indigenous Ambassadors

For the first time this year, AFLQ is proud to announce the SEQ Junior Indigenous Ambassadors for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, Ally Anderson and Keidean Coleman from the Brisbane Lions and Jed Anderson and Kalinda Howarth from the Gold Coast SUNS.

Kalinda Howarth

Gold Coast SUNS AFLW All-Australian Kalinda Howarth is from the Yuin tribe and grew up in the Yugambeh language speaking region of the Gold Coast area.

What does Sir Doug Nichols Round mean to you:

Sir Doug Nicholls round is an amazing opportunity to further educate and celebrate our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and do my family proud.

What does mean to you to be a junior SDNR ambassador:

Being a junior SDNR ambassador is a massive honour. Growing up as an Aboriginal female in footy, there wasn’t any other Aboriginal female AFL players to aspire to be like. I hope in becoming the junior SDNR ambassador, I can inspire even just one junior to continue their journey through football.

Jed Anderson

Gold Coast SUN Jed Anderson is from the Warramunga tribe just outside of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

What does Sir Doug Nichols Round mean to you:

It’s a massive thing for me. I’ve grown up watching footy my whole life and giving back to the community and junior football is a massive part of why I play footy.

What does mean to you to be a junior SDNR ambassador:

I have kids of my own and I want to give back and help and give them a pathway to come through and something to aspire to.

Ally Anderson

AFLW pioneer Brisbane Lions star Ally Anderson is a proud Gangulu/Wakka Wakka woman from Turrbul country.

What does Sir Doug Nichols Round mean to you:

Being able to celebrate our Indigenous athletes and everything they bring to the game as well as being able to share a part of our culture with everyone else.

What does mean to you to be a junior SDNR ambassador:

I feel very proud to be able to be an ambassador and role model to our junior players and to be able to represent my family and other Indigenous footy players during this round.

Keidean Coleman

Brisbane Lions Academy product Keidean Coleman is from the Dalabon tribe.

He was born in Katherine, Northern Territory and raised in a small Aboriginal community called Barunga which is 80km Southeast of Katherine.

What does Sir Doug Nichols Round mean to you:

It’s a special round that every Indigenous person in Australia gets to celebrate the beautiful game of AFL. Furthermore, it’s fantastic to recognise Sir Doug Nichols and the many other great AFL Indigenous role models and their huge contributions to this sport. Also, to get to share our culture across the whole of Australia.

What does it mean to be a SDNR ambassador:

I feel honoured and excited to be an ambassador for SDNR and a role model for many junior kids and to represent my family.
