Schools battle it out for Brisbane Lions Cup

The Brisbane Lions Cup Grand Finals were held at Yeronga last week with Mountain Creek SHS and Park Ridge SHS meeting in both the Senior and Junior Finals.

The Junior final , whilst a low scoring affair, was a nail biter. Courtney Bromage  for Park Ridge was dominant through the middle and earned herself a Best on Ground Medal.

Mountain Creek battled away but just couldn’t get through the tough defence of Park Ridge.

Park Ridge ran out eventual winners 2.3.15 to 2.0.12.

The Senior girls came out firing in the second game of the day.

Looking to even up the wins Mountain Creek scrambled in defence early as Park Ridge had most of the possession, but couldn’t convert.

It was tough in-and-under footy and the skill level was impressive.

By half time it looked like Mountain Creek had the game won with a 2.1.13 to 0.1.1 lead but Park Ridge had other ideas, putting in a big 3-goal third quarter to see scores l level at 3.2.20 v 3.2.20.

With no goals scored in the last quarter the game went into overtime. Mountain Creek stepped up their running game and piled on 3 quick goals to take out the game 6.4.40 to 4.5.29.

Kate Kerwin took out the Best on Ground  medal for Mountain Creek.
