AFL has been growing in the Darling Downs region for a number of years, including a huge 2012 season.
The Darling Downs region has had a huge season in 2012, breaking regional participation records across the board.
NAB AFL Auskick, club footy and the schools program have all reported an increase in numbers for 2012.
The popular Auskick program has almost surpassed the record set in 2011 of 2 020 participants, and there is still one term to go.
Club footy has also grown on the Downs with extra players from under 8s right through to the senior division pulling on the boots every Saturday.
Club participation has grown by over 200 players, far surpassing the regions record of 1 103 club players set in 2011.
The regions school programs have also grown, boasting an increase of just under 300 participants.
The growth in the Darling Downs shows the effectiveness of AFL development pathways and the ability to move players from Auskick, right through to senior level football.
