QWAFL Round 8 Preview

Yeronga v UQ

We like the sound of this game … oh yes indeedy we do.

Sure, Yeronga has set up camp on the top of the ladder after taking care of Cooly in the last round, but 2016’s biggest improvers, UQ, have swag about them that we are loving.

The Red Lionesses had a right old crack at the Devils in Round 3, sticking with them for pretty much three quarters. And while you could argue both teams have come a long way since then we think this will be a much closer contest.

We thought the Gorillas were in with a chance against UQ last Round, but despite being ten players down they stuck fat and ground out a solid win.

Yeronga …. well they are all class and showed they are rock solid under pressure a fortnight ago.

We are saying Yeronga by 19 points, but they will have to work hard for it.

Coolangatta Tweed v Coorparoo

The big freeze is tipped for parts of South East Queensland this weekend, and we have a feeling Peak Oval will be a very frosty place for Coorparoo.

It’s not a matter of ‘if’ the Bluebirds will win this, it’s ‘how’. They will be pretty filthy about their Round 7 loss to Yeronga and will be looking to strike back in a big way. And we think they will.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. It’s been a tough year so far for the Navy Roos and it doesn’t look like improving this week. But they are a team with a stack of premiership silverware on the mantle and will have to take what they can out of this year.

Coolangatta by 40 points

Where & When:                Peak Oval @ 2:30pm, Saturday June 24

Wilston Grange vs. Zillmere Eagles

How can we say this nicely … Zillmere beat the bejesus out of Grange in Round 3. It was an absolute drubbing and one we didn’t quite see coming.

We think the Eagles will have the wood over Grange again, but the Gorillas are a much improved outfit since Round 3.

The Eagles have been up and down so far in 2016 and their good has been great. But consistency is what they need to be considered a real finals threat.

We want this to be close, but we think it will be a 25 point game to Zillmere.
