Queensland are top of the table after two strong wins on day 1 of the National Under 18 Female Kickstart Championships at Burpengary.
The five-day Championships will see seven Indigenous teams represented at Under 18 level, including all States and Territories.
AFL Head of Diversity Jason Mifsud said the Championships were developed in 2013 to ensure the AFL is growing the reach and impact with Indigenous Australia while at the same time supporting a broader approach to ensuring inclusion of everyone in our game.
“The National Female KickStart Championships is the first targeted female Indigenous program to support the key objectives of driving participation and talent outcomes.
“It also enables the AFL to promote other social outcomes such as health, education, leadership and employment objectives with Indigenous females.
The Championships will form the basis for selection to compete in the 2015 National Female Youth Championships as part of the AFL Indigenous Female Woomeras team. Three-time Premiership player with the Brisbane Lions and AFL Talent Manager Chris Johnson will head the selection process.
