On Monday September 19th, through to Thursday 22 September, hundreds of emerging AFL players will have the opportunity to play in the inaugural AFL Club Academies Development Carnival at Maroochydore and Bond University, Gold Coast.
The matches will feature men’s and women’s players in the Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16s age groups, from the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS Academies. Players are from all across Queensland, as far north to Cairns, west to the Darling Downs and south to the Byron Bay region.
There will also be two Diversity games played with players from regional areas having the opportunity to showcase their potential to academy talent managers.
The carnival will feature two NAB Under 16 AFLW development games between the Lions and SUNS, with both games to be livestreamed. Both games can be viewed here: 2022 NAB AFL National Development Championships- U16 Girls | Cluch.TV
AFL Queensland State Talent Manager Mark Browning said the carnival provided a great opportunity to develop players and coaches, without the pressure of the outcome of match.
“This inaugural carnival will provide our Lions and SUNS kids the chance to see where they are at, while also providing the various academies across Queensland to compare each other’s talent pool,” he said.
“We are so excited to bring all of the academies from across the state together for a few great days.
“It’s an opportunity for boys and girls to network and make new mates, while also progressing their football.
“We are excited to include two Diversity games, which will be a great opportunity to identify diverse talent.
“These kids are pretty new to football, so it will be a great opportunity for them to see what the next level of football looks like.”
