QLD Youth Girls beat Vic Country

Queensland has overcome Victoria Country to claim third spot in Pool A on the last day of the 2014 Youth Girls National Championships.

An unanswered three goal first quarter started the road to victory for Queensland, winning 6.10.46 to 3.3.21.

The deficit could have been a lot worse for Victoria Country, with Queensland missing plenty of opportunities to goal in the first term, scoring seven points.

Isabelle Baldock opened the second quarter with precision kicking from the boundary to slot through a goal, extending the lead out to four goals for Queensland.

Victoria Country began to look more dangerous midway through the quarter, with handy goals from Lucy Thompson and Jordan Membrey closing the gap.

Country would be disappointed giving away a fifty metre penalty early in the third term, to give Queensland back all the momentum.

Luana Healy had another stand out performance in the ruck for Queensland, dominating the clearances.

Maddie Protheroe took a great grab with only two minutes to go in the quarter, to increase their lead to 29 points, and putting the game almost out of contention.

Victoria Country was hard at the contest in the final quarter, getting plenty of possession in the first five minutes to snap the first.

However, it was a low scoring affair for the remainder of the term to secure the victory for Queensland.
