QLD shines on day 1 of AFL Combine

Queenslander’s Aliir Aliir (Aspley AFC), Andrew Boston (Broadbeach AFC), Jordon Bourke (Morningside AFC), Clay Cameron (Mt Gravatt AFC) and Brian Coleman-Broome (Morningside AFC)  took to Etihad Stadium yesterday for day 1 of the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

The Combine is the ultimate test for young footballers aspiring to be picked in November’s 2012 NAB AFL Draft, on Thursday November 22 on the Gold Coast.

Day 1 saw the 114 players tested for both standing and running vertical jump.

Clay Cameron was the best of the Queenslanders in the vertical jump, his running vertical jump of 72cm’s was the 7th highest overall and his standing jump of 88cm was the fifth best for the day.

Aliir Aliir was also a standout performer in the standing vertical jump with his leap of 87cm putting him just behind Clay in 6th position.

The boys will take the track for speed and agility testing today.

In all 120 outstanding prospects from across the country will show their potential at the national-level Draft Combine.

A further 130 will be tested in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in the week following, as AFL clubs fine-tune their selection order for the NAB AFL Draft.
