QFA NORTH – Round 16

Mayne vs Aspley

Following a disappointing loss to Maroochydore last weekend, Mayne will be out for a convincing win over the Hornets to get their momentum rolling again. The Tigers have had, up until now, a close to perfect season so the loss will have put a dent in team spirit. Aspley come into this round following a win over Moreton Bay and if they can harness their newfound confidence, may be able to catch Mayne in a moment of weakness.

Nambour & Hinterland vs Caloundra

Caloundra are currently sitting in fourth place on the ladder. Nearing the end of season, each and every win is crucial to their overall standing for finals. After a close 10-point loss to Noosa last weekend, Caloundra need to use this round to register a win. They better keep their wits about them though, because Nambour & Hinterland are back from a Bye. Nambour & Hinterland are yet to put a win on the scoreboard so will be out in full force to do so before end of season.

Maroochydore vs Noosa

This will undoubtedly be the match to watch this weekend, with both teams sitting on an even 40-points in second and third places on the ladder. The Roos come into this round in high spirits after their win over front-runners Mayne last weekend. Taking down the Tigers is no easy feat, as the other teams can attest to so the Roos will be feeling pretty confident in their abilities to tackle the harder teams in the competition. Noosa are coming off the back of a 10-point win over 4th place Panthers, so will themselves be feeling pretty confident coming up against Maroochydore. If you had to pick a favourite for this one, it would arguably be the Roos but this could seriously be anyone’s.

Moreton Bay – BYE

Following a loss to the Aspley Hornets last weekend, Moreton Bay have the chance to take a break from competition and rest their legs.

QFA SOUTH – Round 17

Alexandra Hills vs Springwood

Springwood has had fairly smooth sailing throughout this season, so you wouldn’t think a loss for them this weekend is on the cards. Following a convincing win over Coolangatta-Tweed last weekend, the Pumas are well and truly in the swing of their finals campaign. Alexandra Hills will have their work cut out for them coming up against the successful team, but hey, never say never.

Coorparoo vs Coolangatta-Tweed

This clash shows top and bottom of the ladder coming head to head. Coorparoo are yet to lose a game this season, so Coolangatta-Tweed would have to pull something amazing out of the bag to take down their undefeated opposition. Coolangatta-Tweed have nothing to lose, so if they can kick a few goals and keep the score margin close, they should walk away with their heads held high.

Kenmore vs Burleigh

The Bears are sitting in a precarious third place on the ladder at the moment, with Yeronga South Brisbane creeping closer on points. A win for them this weekend is important, if they want to cement their position on the ladder, and head in to finals comfortably. After a chance to rest their legs last weekend with a bye, Kenmore should be out on the field with fresh energy. Burleigh meanwhile, had a strong win last weekend over Yeronga, and will be thinking to themselves that the Bears are within their reach. The Bombers had better keep their heads in the game if they are to walk away victorious.

Yeronga South Brisbane vs Robina

Yeronga South Brisbane will be a bit nervous after last weekend’s loss to Burleigh. Sitting only one place apart on the ladder at fourth and fifth, Yeronga need to register a win this weekend to secure their place in the top four. Robina sits a little further down the ladder at sixth place, but following a win over Alexandra Hills last weekend, they might just have the motivation needed to secure a consecutive win. 18-points separate these two teams on the ladder, but never underestimate an under dog.

Coomera – BYE

After a tough loss to undefeated Coorparoo, Coomera this weekend will take a much needed break to regroup before taking on Alexandra Hills in next weeks round.
