QAFL Round 12 Syd Guildford nominee: Todd Carbone

Following a near flawless performance in the middle on Saturday, and a very good lead in match last week, Todd Carbone is the round 12 Syd Guildford player of the round nominee.

He may as well have tucked the footy under his arm at the end of the day and taken it home with him, that’s how much of the ball Carbone had for Mt Gravatt in their win over Surfers Paradise.

“Yeah it was a pretty good, it started off a bit slow, but it was just a really good team performance, so it was hard to play bad in a performance like that,” Carbone said.

“I like playing around the footy, I like getting my hands on the footy. It’s good in there, and we have got other good players like Mick Hamil and Frazer Neate in there so it makes it easy for me to play well, they do the heavy lifting.”

Mt Gravatt has ran into some form in the last month, literally.

There is a clear link between their improvement, and their outside game finding it’s feet, an area in which the 20-year-old specialises in.

“That’s my role in the midfield. The bigger bodies win the footy and I will stay on the outside and get the cheap kicks,” he joked.

“We are a young running side, it’s where the team plays it’s best footy, and the big ground on the weekend played into our hands.”

There was a rough patch in the middle of the year, but signs are good for the Vultures heading forward.

“After the Western Magpies drubbing, we sat down as a team, and the leaders drew a line in the sand and said that’s not acceptable,” Carbone said.

“We lost a few close ones at the start of the year, but we said we can’t sit around wondering what if, we just need to play some good footy.

“We are realistic, we know finals is out of the window, but now we are trying to build some good form in the back end of the year and play some good footy. Our two’s are playing good footy as well so there is some real competition for spots which is good.”

The goal for the Carbone heading forward is a pretty simple one.

“Just keep playing at this standard for the rest of the year, and cement my spot,”

Mt Gravatt travel down to Salk Oval this Saturday to take on Palm Beach. at 2:00pm.
