ASPLEY 14.12.96 defeated PALM BEACH CURRUMBIN 10.5.65

In a re-match of last year’s Preliminary final that had the Lions win by less than a kick to advance to the premiership decider (won by Labrador); the second placed Hornets had a high level of determination to respond from its Semi Final loss to Broadbeach at home against an old foe.

The Hornets welcomed back Connor Goeldner, Alexander Barnes and William O’Dwyer while the Lions went in unchanged from their win over Morningside.

The start of the game was tight with PBC leading at the first change by two-points; 16 to 14.

The game opened up in the second term with both teams trading goals and scoring shots; kicking 5.1 each with the Lions holding that two-point lead, 47 to 45.

The third term belonged to the Hornets with plenty of sting in their tail; they kicked five goals to three to open up a handy 12-point lead heading into the final quarter.

The onslaught continued in the final term with the Lions failing to score and the Hornets kicking 2.7 to fly away to a 31-point victory.

Mac Herring and Kuot Thok each kicked four goals for the winners with Mason O’Sullivan continuining his break-out season.

Ethan Dawson kicked four goals for the Lions with Ti Cuffe and Cameron Poharama each kicking two.

Aspley takes on Broadbeach in this Saturday’s premiership decider.
