TALKING POINTS
Where does the success of the PBC Colts team rank for the club?
The Lions have put together a near-perfect season that would almost rival Broadbeach in the Senior competition for pure quality and unity within this group. To drop one game all season and take down all challengers is a testament to this group.

It’s of no surprise either that we see the Reserves team go on and make the decider and the Seniors, albeit with injuries to key personnel at the wrong time of year, go down in the Semi Finals after the siren.

Will Bella took out the Rising Star award and Brinn Little played an awesome finals series in the Seniors and even again last week in the Reserves. If you’re only as good as your Colts team, PBC is set for another lengthy stint on top of the mountain across all competitions.

Where does Broadbeach have an advantage?
The Cats lead scoring in the last quarter against all opposition. It finishes matches the better team and it’s run to the back end of the finals has been really handy. Its highest goal tallies for the season; 7.0 and 7.2 have come in the final quarters.

Statistically however, despite PBC being outstanding on the scoring front; Broadbeach has not lost a third quarter in its previous eight outings. The key to this is its strong defense and ability to reduce scoring and prevent its opponents from building any momentum. Once sapping all of the energy out of its opponents in the third; it goes on the counter-attack in the last. Imagine Rocky 3 where Rocky plays rope-a-dope with Clubber Lang, who then fatigues and Rocky (Broadbeach) fires the killer punches to win.

Who stands out the most for PBC?
Jack Stringer has been one of the most consistent performers across the season. He is a natural ball winner and is capable of kicking multiple goals in matches to assert himself in the contest. He even earned a spot in the NAB Boys Futures where he kicked a goal against Vic Metro. He has made that transition from Juniors to Senior level with confidence and he will no doubt be playing a higher standard of football in some capacity in 2023.

Will the ghosts of last year’s loss haunt Broadbeach?
For this group, or much of this playing group to have played in last year’s Grand Final was a big stepping stone for this year. To sneak into the top six and run the gauntlet through to the decider was massive and to run with the undefeated Labrador outfit for a half; was massive.

There is nothing to be haunted by from that game. Jared Eckersley and Jonah Semmler played in that game and both played VFL football this year; and this group is there again. That 47-point loss in the decider last year was a good learning curve.

Who wins?
It will be a big ask for Broadbeach to take the title away from PBC this year; a team that has been near flawless. If Broadbeach remain a chance; it absolutely must hold PBC to 2 or 3 goals in the third term and stop their usual pulsating attacking game plan after the break.

PBC will be too strong by 32 points and Luca Laverde to take out the best on ground medal.
