Panthers fight against domestic violence

The Morningside Panthers are joining the fight to stop domestic violence by walking one mile in high-heeled shoes, and they want you to join them.

The dual-premiership winning senior playing squad of the Panthers will lead the walk to be held at Hawthorne Park on Sunday November 9th.  Commitments to join them have already come from local businesses, local Government representatives and other local sporting clubs.

The club has partnered with White Ribbon Australia to raise awareness and provide funds to help stop domestic violence.

The internationally acclaimed Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event asks men to literally walk one mile in red high-heeled shoes.  Similar events have been run across the world, but only once before in South-East Queensland.

Panthers Senior President David Diamond said the event will be a fantastic way to help raise awareness for something which is not often talked about.

“The Morningside Panthers play a vital role in our community by engaging young men in a positive social environment.  It’s not just about football; we want to ensure that they leave our club better people than when they join.  It will be a great day and we want whole families to join us on the walk, even the dog.”

“We want to help spread the word that domestic violence is never okay, especially not in our local community” said Diamond.

The walk is expected to prove a good off-season challenge for the Panthers who went through the 2014 season undefeated.

“It will prove interesting, that’s for sure” exclaimed Diamond.

“Although it’s for a serious cause, this event should provide a perfect way to raise awareness, whilst also having some fun doing so.”

The walk will begin at 10:30am on Sunday November 9th with a family fun day to be held at the Panthers at the conclusion of the walk.
