Western Magpies brothers Greg and Conrad Lavey will play together for the first time in a decade on Saturday.

The pair, teammates with the Hervey Bay Bombers back in 2000, will be reunited via Conrad’s QAFL senior debut.

At a club renowned for its quirky nicknames, many at the Bombers will know Greg Lavey as ‘Gravy’, while Conrad, who joined the Magpies shortly before the start of the season, was instantly nicknamed ‘[Chips’ – as in “Chips and Gravy.”

No less than four Wide Bay Juniors will run out for the Magpies on Saturday, with the Lavey brothers joining  Billy Moorhead and Hayden Thick, both formerly of Brothers Bulldogs.

Magpies Club Development Manager Anthony McDonald said: “Having been involved in Greg and Conrad’s development in my former role it will be a pleasure to see them run out together in a QAFL match.

“Greg has been great for our Seniors all season and I can’t wait to see how Conrad goes at the level after being a consistent performer in the Reserves,” he said.

“He’s taken a little while to earn senior selection after not doing a proper pre-season but he’s certainly earned his opportunity.”
