Lions top AFLW All-Australian squad

The AFL has today confirmed the 2017 Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All-Australian Squad, with the Brisbane Lions contributing nine players of the 40 nominated.

A final team of 22 players will be announced at the W Awards on Tuesday, March  28, recognising the best individual performances in each position from the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition.

The Lions’ opponent in the NAB AFL Women’s Grand Final at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, the Adelaide Crows, have five representatives in the squad, one fewer than the Melbourne Demons who have six.

Collingwood’s late season charge helped five Magpies earn selection, while Carlton, Fremantle and the GWS Giants each have four representatives in the squad.

Three Western Bulldogs players remain in contention for the final team.
