Kedron to launch AFL 9s premiership comp

Brisbane’s inner north will play host to the first event of its kind in Australia this winter, with the launch of an 18 week McDonald’s AFL 9s ‘Premiership’ season at Kedron.

The touch-AFL competition will be overseen by Matt Patten, a Wilston Grange volunteer who has helped McDonald’s AFL 9s grow in the Brisbane’s inner north.

“We’ve hosted some really successful social competitions at Wilston Grange, with most of our mixed and men’s competitions at capacity” Patten said.

“Given the growth of McDonald’s AFL 9s in our area we thought it might be time to try something different, by offering a slightly more structured competition in line with the footy season.”

“This Premiership season will be great.  It gives players and fans a chance to have a kick, players who might not usually get the chance to play traditional football due to injury or family and work commitments.”

The new competition format will feature 10 teams, with sides playing each other twice.  Scores, ladders and a finals series will also be tracked with the victor taking out the traditional Premiership trophy.

The new competition will kick off on Monday 27 April at 6:00pm at Kedron AFC, Sixth Avenue, Kedron.
