The University Hawks AFC has been a pioneer in promoting the AFL’s Indigenous Round of football in Townsville and has worked tirelessly over the past few years to establish a healthy relationship with the local Indigenous educational facility, Shalom Christian College.
To further strengthen the bond between the club and college, the Hawks engaged all enrolled students to create a new and unique Indigenous inspired football jumper for the club to wear each year during Indigenous Round.
This initiative was fully funded by three very generous Sponsors – Health and Wellbeing North Ward; Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland; and Play By The Rules.
On match day, elders from the college will present the jumpers to the participating Hawks players prior to the reserves and senior matches.
A traditional Welcome to Country will be performed and Indigenous players will be selected to captain their sides.
