HUGHES WIDENS GAP

Friday 13 August 2010

Southport star Cleve Hughes is within touching distance of the Ray Hughson Medal in his first season in the QAFL.

The former Richmond key forward booted seven goals last week to stretch his lead to 11 over NT Thunder’s Darren Ewing as the League’s leading goalkicker with two rounds remaining.

While Hughes dined out against the Western Magpies after managing just two goals against the bottom side in Round 11, Ewing had a tough time with a solitary major against Aspley’s Tyson Hartwig.

Former dual Brisbane Lions premiership player Tim Notting reach his half-century last week, with his two goals against Redland taking him to exactly 50 for the season.

The century mark is out of range for the qualifying rounds, meaning Broadbeach ace Korey Fulton was the last man to achieve the feat in 2006.
