Terry Devery

Match-winning rover originally from Box Hill who joined Morningside after 31 AFL games with Footscray from 1957-61. Captain-coach of the Panthers from 1962-65, he led them to their first final series in 1963 and ‘64. Formed an awesome combination with ruck giant Terry Johnston to drag the club out of the doldrums, winning their first flag in 1965.

Was runner-up in the Grogan Medal in 1962, played six games for Queensland, and was regularly among the Maroons’ best. Captain of the Morningside ‘Team of the Half Century’ announced in 2001, he returned as president in 1980 only to retire due to ill health.
