Selina Goodman in only her second year of football, has taken out the Cairns Women’s League Best & Fairest held at Rydges Tradewinds on a cyclonic night in Cairns.
The North Cairns ruckman dominated the count in the first 7 rounds to jump to a resounding lead which could not be hauled back in by Manunda Hawks ruckman Monika Duggan who finished as Runner Up.
Qld players dominated the top 5 vote getters in the count.
Jo Butland, Captain/Coach of North Cairns was awarded the Coach of the Year. Kate Pender from Central Trinity Beach was awarded the Leading Goal Kicker Award with Ruby Leete from South Cairns winning the Player’s Player Award.
Jo Butland (North Cairns), Mel Smith (Centrals Trinity Beach) and Ellie Martin (South Cairns) were all presented by AFL Cairns Women’s League President Fiona Sharpe a token of appreciation for 10 years service to AFL Cairns Women’s League as founding members of the competition.
North Cairns will play Centrals Trinity Beach in the Grand Final at Cazaly’s on Saturday 24 March at 5pm.
