FINAL TEAMS SELECTED

Aspley flyer Jamie Sheahan succumbed to injury while Adam Mueller and Dean Putt were squeezed out to emergency status as the Queensland side is finalized.

Aspley flyer Jamie Sheahan succumbed to injury while Adam Mueller and Dean Putt were squeezed out to emergency status as the Queensland side to play Tasmania was finalized last night.

Sheahan, 19, was so desperate to play on the interstate stage that he hobbled back onto the ground last weekend in Aspley’s tight loss to the Lions Reserves with a corked thigh.

His lack of mobility convinced him to return to the bench, but iced the injury every hour in an attempt to get rid of the cork in six days.

However, scans during the week revealed a slight tear, ruling him out of a contention.

The selectors expectedly opted for just the one ruckman, with aggressive NT big man Kenrick Tyrrell winning a points decision ahead of Putt, who will now play for Queensland Under 21 in the curtain-raiser against the VAFA Under 21s.

Mueller too was unlucky, reflecting the strength of the final 23.

While State pride is on the line, the clash at Fankhauser Reserve also gives a number of players an opportunity to press claims as mature aged draft picks in front AFL scouts.
