COAST STADIUM TAKES SHAPE

Monday 7 March 2011

The brand new Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara is looking better all the time, with turf laid at the ground on Friday.

Southport will be the first NEAFL club to sample the atmosphere at the stunning, renovated ground on Saturday 28 May when they clash with the Suns Reserves.

That game will be the curtain-raiser to the Gold Coast Suns v Geelong showpiece.

Former AFLQ grounds expert Nick Jeffrey is now in charge at Carrara and is sure to have the surface in pristine condition come the end of May.

It has been a big month for venues in south-east Queensland, with the grass being laid at Yeronga a week earlier at AFLQ’s new headquarters.

No decision has been made yet on where the NEAFL Northern Conference grand final will be played but the League has plenty of options in 2011.

The QAFL grand final has been played at Coorparoo (twice), Carrara (three times) and the Gabba (twice) in the last seven years.
