Two of Broadbeach’s major off-season signings will be better for the run in this week’s Club Aid Trophy pre-season competition.
Griffin Underwood (Belconnen) and Kallen Geary (Sandgringham) joined the Cats over summer and should add plenty to the blue and whites’ midfield.
Underwood has been a regular ACT rep at the national country championships and was one of their better players at last year’s titles in Canbbera.
A former winner of the Most Courageous Player at Belconnen, he also possesses and Anzac Medal presented each year by the Magpies.
Geary finished runner-up club champion and best finals player with the Sandringham reserves in the VFL last season and having been back-to-back best and fairest with the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup.
Still only 19, Geary’s running power will add to a group that regularly matched the better sides in the competition for the first half of last season.
Of the two biggest name recruits to H&A Oval this season, Rhan Hooper showed glimpses of his best in the opening round of the Club Aid Trophy, although full-forward Jason Eagle was kept in cotton wool.
Two of the Cats’ big key position players have moved down to lower level competitions over summer.
Ryan Dienjes has joined Surfers Paradise, while one-time Gold Coast Suns prospect Cheyne Hutchinson has gone to Beenleigh.
