AFL Queensland has worked alongside AFL NSW/ACT and the Byron Bay Football Club to ensure the return of the Magpies’ Senior Men’s program.
Unable to field a men’s team in 2022, Byron Bay will return to the Men’s space with one team in the AFL North Coast Competition for 2023.
To assist the long-term strategy and sustainability of the club, the Byron Bay Women’s team will withdraw from QFAW Division 2 South and join the men’s team in the AFL North Coast comp.
Under this united approach, the Byron Bay Magpies plan to rebuild their playing lists with the intention to rejoin AFL Queensland in the coming seasons.
AFLQ will continue to work closely with all teams to support this roadmap and wish the Byron Bay Football Club all the best for season 2023.
Josh Rhodes, QFA’s Competition Manager was grateful for Byron’s efforts in the competition: “AFL Queensland thanks Byron Magpies – it’s players, volunteers and officials – for all it’s done to enhance our competitions across our region,” he said. “We look forward to watching the club continue to develop in the NSW-based AFL North Coast competition and wish the club all the best.”
